In December the nights are longer and the food is very rich, heavy and tasty. Christmas is arriving and the family celebrations are going on. A time where a lot of people eat too much. The perfect time for Ajwain a spice which helps you to relieve from flatulence, and diarrhoea.

Scientific name: Trachyspermum ammi

Family: Apiaceae (Umbelliferae)

Useful part : Seeds

Sanskrit name: Ajamoda/ Deepyaka/ Yavanika

English : Bishop’s weed/ carom seed

Ayurvedic properties :

  • Reduces kapha and vatha
  • Increases pitha
  • Improves appetite
  • Anti septic.
  • Relieves flatulence, indigestion, diarrhoea.
  • Diuretic
  • Anti spasmodic

Commonly used spice in Indian dishes. Ajwain improves the digestive fire. The seed has strong antiseptic property. It relieves most of the digestive complaints like sensitive bowel, flatulence, indigestion, stomach ache and diarrhoea. It controls cardiac muscle function and is diuretic.

Chewing ajwain seeds helps to prevent the digestion problems due to over intake of heavy foods.
