February a time when winter is there in Europe and often a lot of people get a cold or don’t feel so comfortable. A time when fennel helps you to relieve a cold or to balance your stomach again. Fennel is balancing the Vatha and Pitha Dosha which is easy out of balance at this time of the year. Family: Apiaceae / Umbelliferae

Sanskrit name: misreya / misi

 

Ayurvedic properties:

  • Reduces vatha and Pitha
  • Carminative
  • Expectorant
  • Anti helminthic
  • Diuretic
  • Aphrodisiac
  • Anti emetic
  • Prevents acidity

Fennel is sweet and acrid/ pungent in taste. Reduces Vatha and Pitha even though it is mildly pungent or spicy in taste. It is good for digestion as it is a carminative helping to relieve bloating and indigestion. It helps to expel the phlegm out as it is an expectorant. It has wormicidal properties and helpful for killing the intestinal worms. Fennel is aphrodisiac and diuretic; helpful in urinary complaints like difficult micturition. It helps to control vomiting, heart burn. It is advisable in skin diseases and general weakness. It improves the breast milk production.
