Tholpavakuthu (Shadow Puppet Play) at the Nattika Resort
Our guests sat spellbound in the ambience of light and darkness as the story of the great epic Ramayana, which itself depicts the triumph of light over darkness, was presented through Tholpavakuthu or Shadow Puppetry, a unique folk art form of Kerala which has been intermittently staged at our resort.
The 2000 year old ritual art form dedicated to Hindu Goddess Bhadrakali, is a story enactment of Lord rama (incarnation of Vishnu) and his triumph over the demon king Ravana. Our guests were left intrigued and amazed, as the maestros effortlessly played with light and darkness, making the puppets’ shadows dance. After the performance, guests were invited backstage to see the puppets and learn more about the techniques of the puppeteers.
